W Motors: Supercars speak Arabic

28 Oct 2015

W Motors is the name of the first Arabic House, which produces, signs and sells luxury sports cars. It was founded in Lebanon in 2012 by Ralph Dellas, an Arabic native speaker who studied in Coventry and Beirut. The firm is now located in Dubai.

The original logo of this new firm distinguishes it from all the others Italian brand (Cavallino, Tridente, Bull,..): it is a simple silver W (the first letter of the name). On the one hand it could be an indication of scarce fantasy and originality, on the other hand it could be possible to argue that who can put diamonds on the dashboard doesn’t need a good press office to be remembered.

We are not exaggerating: the only one model produced and sold is the Lykan HyperSport, which was presented in January 2013 during the Qatar International Motor Show and which boasts this detail and many others. For this reason it is on sale at the exorbitant price of 3,4 million dollars and it is one of the most expensive car in the world. At the moment there are only seven items of this car on sale , but we can also mention the ten false vehicles, which were identical to the originals and perfectly operative, but they are created only for being destroyed during the shootings of Fast and Furious 7, which took place in Dubai.

In the future other four models will be produced, in addition to the one on sale now. The Lykan Supersport will be less luxurious but more performing, with 100hp and a 245mph speed. We don’t know anything about the Lykan Roadster, except for the fact that it will be probably a legend: only three models will be produced.

The last two will be a sedan and a SUV, which would be finished in 2016. Empty promise? Maybe. We only know that the HyperSport exists and it has success, and this is not a signal that we can easily ignore.

Even if the W Motors business plan decrees that the majority of the future productions must be invented, assembled and commercialized in the United Arabic Emirates, the few cars which are effectively on sale were produced in a Turin firm. If ever there was the need of confirming that Italy is a point of reference in the field of high quality cars production, this circumstance would close the issue.
