The abandoned supercars

25 Oct 2015

Each country has some urgent public order problems: unemployment, army, immigration…or many abandoned supercars.

This is the case of UAE, where only in the last year were abandoned more than three thousand high-powered cars in multi-storey car parks of the airports.

It seems that in the Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports there would be lots of unattended Mercedes, Audi and BMW, which are abandoned for weeks and weeks inducing a great joy to the photographers.

Sometimes , more rarely, it also possible to find also abandoned supercars; in 2012 it was reached the maximum of the absurdity: it was found a Ferrari Enzo, whose value was more or less of a million dollar, in a car park while its owner was leaving the country.

The reason of this tragicomic situation is not a uncontrolled richness, which could eventually depreciate the value of a luxury car, but the contrary. In the UAE is in force the Sharia, the Koranic law, which establishes that if a person dishonors a debt, he has committed a heavy criminal act and he has to be strictly punished. Everyone who has accumulated a considerable richness in the last years (when the economy in general was booming, and above all the economy of the oil exporting countries), now has to reduce the splurges. And if this reduction is not enough the consequences are the prison or the abandoning of the country and, of course, of the car, whose installments are impossible to pay.

At least, this circumstance has a positive aspect: the abandoned supercars are picked up by the police and, if the owner doesn’t claim it in a short time, put up for auction (very often in the auction their value is lesser than their real one). The main problem is the time that passes before the recognition of a car as “abandoned”, as the matter of fact sometimes is a very long period and the car, when is ready to be put up for auction, is almost wasted.
